Botanical Garden Fall Open House

Brunswick County residents and visitors are invited to spend a fall morning exploring the Brunswick County Botanical Garden during a free Open House on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Hosted by NC State Extension Master GardenerSM volunteers in Brunswick County, the event offers a chance to stroll through 17 distinct garden spaces while learning practical, local-friendly tips for gardening success. Master Gardener volunteers will be stationed throughout the garden to answer questions, highlight interesting plants and share ideas tailored to Brunswick County’s unique growing conditions.
What visitors can expect
This year’s Open House will feature the largest number of demonstration and information stations the event has offered to date. Guests can:
• Learn the basics of composting
• Bring pruners for a hands-on sharpening lesson
• Find out what to plant this fall
• Pick up a free soil sample kit
• Explore rain gardens and water-wise landscaping ideas
• Learn ways to reduce wildfire risk around the home
• Discover what it takes to become an Extension Master Gardener volunteer
Visitors can also peek inside the Master Gardener shed, watch the “Bucket of Doom” mosquito-control demonstration, learn about rain barrels available for purchase and enjoy refreshments provided by Brunswick County 4-H Youth Council Club members.
A garden designed to educate and inspire
The Botanical Garden itself is a major part of the experience. Its collection of specialty spaces showcases a wide variety of plants and growing conditions, giving visitors a real-world look at what thrives locally.
Garden areas include sunny and shady native gardens, pollinator and rain gardens, edible and rose gardens, and other themed spaces created to educate, spark ideas and inspire new projects at home.
