Here’s a taste of what’s happening this holiday season from Calabash to Oak Island.

Looking for something fun and festive to do in South Brunswick County this holiday season? Here’s your guide to exciting holiday events along the coast.

Calabash Christmas Tree Lighting
On Friday, December 2, the holiday season lights up downtown Calabash with the 27th Annual Spirit of Calabash Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting. The parade begins at 6 pm and travels along Beach Drive and down River Road. Santa will arrive at the end of the parade accompanied by the Calabash Fire Department. Community caroling, hot chocolate and a reindeer food station will also be available at Callahan’s of Calabash. This event is free to the public. For more information call (910) 579-6747.

Laser Holidays at Ingram Planetarium
Every Friday and Saturday from 6 to 7 pm, visitors to Ingram Planetarium can see a spectacular Laser Holiday Music Show. This show features colorful laser images displayed on the domed ceiling of the Sky Theater accompanied by holiday music that includes such classics as Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Winter Wonderland and Jingle Bell Rock. The holiday laser music show is appropriate for all ages and runs through the end of the year. The planetarium is located at 7625 High Market Street in Sunset Beach and is closed on December 24 and 25. For ticket prices click here.

Holiday Art Market Festivities

Festival of Trees in OIB
The 3rd Annual Festival of Trees is happening now through December 31 at the Museum of Coastal Carolina. Visitors can view the trees and vote for their favorite during regular museum hours weekly Thursday through Saturday. The event is a fundraiser for the Museum, Ingram Planetarium and tree sponsors. Southport’s WINTERFEST 2022
Celebrate the holiday season in Southport during WINTERFEST 2022, which begins on December 3 and runs through the 11th and includes 17 action-packed events and fun activities for all ages. Some of the daily special events include:
• The Winterfest Tea on Saturday, December 3 at 1 pm at the Southport Community Building, located at 223 E. Bay Street. Tickets are $45.
• The Shop-with-a-Cop Concert featuring the Back Porch Rockers is sponsored by the Southport Police Department. It will take place on Monday, December 5 from 6 to 8 pm in Franklin Square Park.
• The Light Up the Night Christmas Parade is sponsored by the Southport Fire Department. On Friday, December 9, at 5:30 pm the children will begin boarding the fire engines at the Southport Fire Station. The Christmas parade begins at 6:30 pm.
• Southport’s 28th Winterfest Flotilla will illuminate the waterfront. Bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the beauty of Christmas lights that adorn sail, power and paddle boats on Saturday, December 10 at 7 pm at the Southport Waterfront.

Calabash NC Christmas Parade

Oak Island Holiday Drop and Shop
Do your holiday shopping this year while your children are having fun at the Oak Island Ocean Education Center. The Holiday Drop and Shop is on Saturday, December 10 from 9 am to 2 pm. The cost per child is $18 for residents and $23 for non-residents. The event is designed for children ages 6 to 12 years old. Participants will make a holiday craft, play games and watch a holiday movie. The Oak Island Ocean Education Center is located at 4700 E. Oak Island Drive, Suite C. Parents can register for this event here.
