Port City Shakedown Delivers the Dance Party

An award-winning, seven-piece party band, Port City Shakedown guarantees lots of dancing, singalongs and fun. A lively mix of male and female musicians, the band was built to entertain, which is why they’re a popular act for wedding receptions, private parties, corporate events and festivals.  They get the fun started and keep it going from the first song to the encore (which, according to many reviews, guests will beg for).

“We strive to make every performance an energetic singalong, party-like-it’s-1999, blow-out dance party,” says Tim Meyer, the band’s drummer and manager. Port City Shakedown’s greatest hits range the ‘50s right up to the current chart toppers, anything from Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake to classics like “Killing Me Softly” by the Roots, “At Last” by Etta James and “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. And they add their own creative touches, too.   

“Over the years, we’ve come to separate ourselves from other performers by creating our own unique live arrangements to songs or a medley of songs,” Meyer explains. “We perform with more of a Las Vegas–style production to make every song pop when performed live.”

From the start, Port City Shakedown has been all about serving the listener. In fact, the group came into being when one of Meyer’s coworkers asked if he could do her a favor and throw together a band for her wedding reception — in just three months. One Craigslist ad and a handful of auditions later, Port City Shakedown was born. After a successful show, one guest hired the band to play a private party in Raleigh. Then the gigs just kept coming.

For Port City Shakedown, playing an event means far more than showing up on time for sound check and rocking the house. “As with any successful business, there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into making a performance happen,” Meyer says. “Building the trust of a client is very important to us.” Of course, their rave reviews don’t hurt either. Port City Shakedown is proud to have a perfect 5-star rating on Gigsalad.com and Weddingwire.com, and they’ve received the Couples’ Choice Award for the past three years.
