Community sponsors and more than 120 golfers swung into action at Fore the Paws Golf Tournament at Compass Pointe, raising big bucks for the dogs of Paws Place.
More than 120 golfers participated in the Paws Place Dog Rescue Fore The Paws Golf Tournament sponsored by PMG Carolinas on September 22 at Compass Pointe Golf Club in Leland. The annual event was founded to raise much-needed funds for operations at the nonprofit dog rescue, and the 2025 event and auction raised more than $55,000 through entry fees, sponsorships, raffle ticket sales, silent auction sales and special donations.
Golf entry fees, raffle tickets, silent auction items and mulligans brought in more than $15,000. Contributing more than $39,000 were nearly 40 sponsors, proving the valuable community support for Paws Place Dog Rescue.

In addition, professional long-drive golfer Jeanine Minnick helped raise an impressive $1,800.
Ranked #7 in the World Long Drive, Minnick is known for her 125+ mph club speed and 180+ mph ball speed. Players had the unique opportunity to donate for a chance to watch her launch a ball down the fairway. With a larger contribution, teams could even advance their play by taking their second shot from Minnick’s 359-yard drive marker — an experience that combined excitement with impact for the dogs of Paws Place.
Founded in 1999, Winnabow-based Paws Place Dog Rescue is a no-kill shelter dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of dogs.
Upon arrival, each of their rescued dogs is fully examined by a vet. Before they are available for adoption, they are spayed or neutered, given all age-appropriate vaccinations, started on heartworm preventative, flea and tick prevention, microchipped and showered with love and affection.
The funds raised will be put to very good use providing medicine, medical care, food and shelter for Paws Place’s current and future dogs.
Medical expenses for a single dog can range from $250 to $7,500, depending on need. Funds will also be used for much-needed repairs, maintenance and replacement of equipment necessary to run the nonprofit operation.
“It was a joy to see so many people come together to support Paws Place,” says Lee VanOrmer, Paws Place board president. “Our supporters were able to help raise over $55,000, which makes it possible to save more dogs, provide critical medical treatment and help them find their furever homes. We appreciate our sponsors, staff, donors, golfers and volunteers and look forward to next year’s event.”

Paws Place Dog Rescue has already begun planning its 2026 Raise The Ruff event, bringing back the Casino Night theme. The event will be held at the Hotel Ballast in Wilmington on March 7.
