October Programs at the Museum of Coastal Carolina

Ocean Isle Beach, NC – The Museum of Coastal Carolina is open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (10:00 to 3:00) from now through December 28. The Museum is closed on Thanksgiving Day.

On October 5 at 11:00, explore the world of fossils with Museum volunteers Alex Tempsick and Lynn Moore, both experienced educators and fossil enthusiasts.

On October 8 at 6:00 PM, listen to Cathy Altman discuss the history and haunting of Calabash’s Hickory Hall, one of the oldest buildings in Brunswick County. It is rumored that Hickory Hall is haunted by the ghosts of former slaves.

On October 12 at 11:00, go on a guided marsh walk and learn about tides, estuaries, oysters, and more. Bring along water, bug spray, and sunscreen. Wear clothing and footwear that can withstand sand, salt, and mud. 

On October 19 at 11:00, join local snake specialist Matthew Bookout as he educates and entertains with live snakes and reptiles.

October 26 is Trunk or Treat day at the Museum. Local businesses sponsor tables throughout the museum and distribute treats to kids. Costumes (but not masks) are encouraged but not required. At 11:00, junior budding scientists are invited to a Creepy Lab for some Halloween fun.

Visitors to the museum will want to check out the new art exhibit called “Timeless Moments” in the museum’s Coastal Gallery. This exhibit features original art and prints by V. Ryan (“Bunny”) Lauzon. Some of the original paintings are available for sale.

The Museum of Coastal Carolina is located at 21 East Second Street, Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Admission to the museum is free for members. Admission is free for active duty military and disabled veterans plus up to one guest (must include military ID card holder).  Non-member all-day admission (tax included) is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors (62+), $7.50 for children (3-12), and free for age 2 and under.
