Love Is in the Air at Sweet Nectar’s Florist

Valentine’s Day and flowers go hand in hand. While there is nothing wrong with flowers from a big box store, anybody will tell you that it means so much more to receive a hand-delivered floral arrangement from a boutique florist. For one thing, the flowers last longer than the typical bouquet in cellophane. Also, the floral artist’s arranging techniques just have that extra flair. This Valentine’s Day, truly express how much that special someone means to you with a special arrangement of flowers.

Sweet Nectar’s Florist in Leland started planning for the most romantic day of the year months in advance. Shipments of exquisite flowers arrive daily as they get ready for their busiest day.

“We put a lot of research into what we serve our customers,” says Steven Kennedy, owner of Sweet Nectar’s. “The majority of our flowers are shipped from outside of the United States so we know our customers are getting the best.” When the high-quality flowers arrive at Kennedy’s shop, they are immediately preserved so that they will live longer. The process the flowers go through from when they arrive at the shop to the minute they are placed in an arrangement typically takes up to a week.

While roses are by far the most popular Valentine’s Day flower, many arrangements will be made up of a variation of lilies, daisies and roses. And other items can always be added.

“For Valentine’s Day we offer add-ons to all orders,” Kennedy says. “Customers can order candy, stuffed animals and balloons to make the arrangement extra special.”

Sweet Nectar’s has already started working on pre-orders for the holiday and will continue to work up until the last minute. All orders placed early will receive a special shipping discount. Sweet Nectar’s delivers to Winnabow, Kure Beach, Porters Neck, anywhere in Wilmington and locally in Leland, just to name a few areas. Pre-ordering is not required, so if you are one of those shoppers who waits until the last minute, you can walk in and get what you need the day of. They will have a large assortment of pre-made arrangements at various prices that you will be able to quickly select and purchase.

Aside from the typical cut-flower arrangement, this year Sweet Nectar’s will be selling orchid plants. With the proper care, orchids can live for years. The American Orchid Society says, “Orchids bring peace, love and happiness to your life; they bring a way to escape from the stresses of everyday living.”

Whether you give a big bouquet, an orchid or a single stem, remember Valentine’s Day is truly about love. And when you shop local, you are giving a little love to a small business as well.

Lensey Wilson

After graduating from Meredith College with a degree in mass communication, I decided to move to West Palm Beach, Florida. Born and raised on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I could not imagine living too far from a coastal area. After spending nearly two years in Florida, I decided it was time to move back to North Carolina (maybe my love for Bojangles and Carolina barbecue had something to do with it!). I am very thankful that I now get to call Wilmington home and for having a career that lets me do what I love to do.
