BCC Celebrates 548 Graduates
Brunswick Community College celebrated 548 graduates at its 47th commencement, awarding 693 degrees, diplomas and certificates at Odell Williamson Auditorium.
Brunswick Community College (BCC) celebrated student achievement and academic excellence during its 47th Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 8, at Odell Williamson Auditorium. The ceremony recognized approximately 548 graduates who earned a combined 693 degrees, diplomas, and certificates across a broad range of academic and workforce training programs.
693 Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates Awarded Across Academic and Workforce Programs
Graduates represented programs including Associate in Arts, Associate in Engineering, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degrees, along with multiple diploma and certificate pathways designed to support career readiness and continued educational success.
This year’s graduating class also included students from Brunswick County Early College High School and Career & College Promise, BCC’s dual enrollment program that allows high school students to earn college credit while completing their secondary education.
Continuing Education and Workforce Development Credentials Support Career Readiness
During the 2025–2026 academic year, Brunswick Community College awarded more than 1,300 industry-recognized credentials through its Continuing Education and Workforce Development programs. These credentials reflect BCC’s focus on skilled trades training, lifelong learning, and workforce advancement in Brunswick County and the surrounding region.
Commencement Program Highlights and Student Recognition
BCC President Gene Smith presided over the ceremony and recognized graduates for their perseverance and dedication throughout their educational journeys. Student commencement speaker Zoe’ Elliott delivered a reflection on the student experience at BCC and the opportunities ahead.
The ceremony also recognized outstanding achievement among students, alumni, and faculty through the following awards:

• Distinguished Alumni Award: Katie Caison, DNP, APRN, FNP-C
• Academic Excellence Award: Zoe’ Elliott
• Dallas Herring Achievement Award: Lauren Schubert
• Robert W. Scott Leadership Award: Matthew Hennessy
• Dinah E. Gore Excellence in Teaching Award: Richard Bowie
• Dinah E. Gore Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award: Wilburn “Will” Smith
