A Legacy Comes to Leland

With a store well established in Shallotte, Scott’s Farm & Family opens a second location in Leland.

Located in Shallotte and Leland, Scott’s Farm & Family is a family-owned and operated business that offers a wide range of products and services for livestock, pets, lawn, and garden. From animal feed and supplies to birdseed and grills, it has something for everyone.

More than just a store, Scott’s Farm & Family is a continuation of a family tradition rooted in agriculture and community support. The business stems from decades of experience in the feed industry, dating back to the Scott family’s original venture, Chadbourn Feed Service, in the ’60s. Bill Scott of Whiteville was an accountant for Dixie Grain in Chadbourn, North Carolina. In 1977, he and his son, Will Scott, bought into the business after Will graduated from N.C. State’s Agriculture program.

In May 2016 they opened Scott’s Farm & Family in Shallotte, with the third generation, one of Will’s sons, Andrew, at the helm.

“My older brother, Ethan, along with my dad and grandmother still operate the business in Chadbourn,” Andrew says. “Belinda Williams and I have been managing the Shallotte store since it opened in 2016.”

The store offers a diverse range of products, including animal feed, fencing supplies, workwear, and outdoor essentials like grills and boots.

“We try to diversify and offer more than what a basic feed and seed store would,” Andrew says. “We stock decorative garden flags, wild bird seed and feeders, Grizzly Coolers, Traeger Grills, Georgia Boots, Xtra Tuff boots and propane refills.”

Beyond retail, the business is deeply committed to its local roots, supporting the agricultural community and fostering a welcoming atmosphere for customers.

hether customers are tending to livestock, working the land or simply seeking reliable farm supplies, Scott’s Farm & Family continues to be a go-to destination as it opens its second location.

When Hollybucks, a local feed and seed store in Leland, closed its doors, the Scotts saw an opportunity to serve the community and opened Scott’s Farm & Family of Leland.

“My family traded with Mr. Jimmy Hollis of Hollybucks during the ’80s and ’90s and knows the family very well,” Andrew says. “The opportunity became available, and everything fell into place for us to open a store in Leland.”

Scott’s Farm & Family was warmly welcomed by the Shallotte community, and the family hopes to make a similar impact in Leland, providing a “place of knowledge and friendliness.”

“We have been serving the community and surrounding area of Shallotte and have met a lot of great people during our time there,” Andrew says. “We know we can also help the community of Leland by providing quality products and service.”

In addition to its wide range of products, Scott’s Farm & Family prides itself on its knowledge of the products in the store as well as the ability to offer advice or help beyond just purchasing something.

“We like for our customers to have a welcoming experience with an intent to help them with their needs, whatever they may be,” Andrew says. “Our team has a lot of knowledge, and even though we might not have all the answers, we have plenty of resources and people who we can reach out to that are experts in their respected fields.”

Andrew emphasizes the business’s commitment to the core values of family, honesty and exceptional customer service. The family and staff strive to create a welcoming environment where every customer feels valued and supported, whether they are experienced farmers or first-time gardeners.

“Our main focus and long-term goals are to continue to provide great customer support and a welcoming atmosphere where people can come in and have a community connection,” Andrew says.
