Woman’s Club Seeks Members
GFWC Cape Fear Woman’s Club seeks Leland-area volunteers for community service projects in the Leland and Brunswick County area.
While there are several clubs in Brunswick County, GFWC Cape Fear Woman’s Club is the only women’s club located in north Brunswick County. The club held its first meeting in January and meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Community Commons Building, 2501 Brunswick Forest Parkway in Leland.
GFWC Cape Fear Woman’s Club is a member of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs North Carolina, an international organization with members in every state in the United States and more than a dozen countries. Through its volunteer membership, GFWC has worked since 1890 on a broad program of social reform including support of the first child labor law and equal pay for equal work, a youth suicide prevention program, a safety for older Americans programs and many others.
Members are looking forward to assisting with community improvement and to making a difference. Anyone who can volunteer a few hours a month to a community service project should attend the meetings and are welcome to learn more.
Jan Allen, president, says that while the Cape Fear Woman’s Club will devote its efforts primarily to Hope Harbor Home, Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina and college scholarships, members eventually will choose from a wide range of projects in the areas of arts, conservation, education, international outreach and public issues.
Cape Fear Woman’s Club promotes life-long learning and offers women of all ages the opportunity to exchange ideas and form lasting friendships.
