Winners All Around
Greg Norris of Ash wins a car, and Shallotte Rotary Club raises more than $20,000 for the community needs and projects.
Greg Norris of Ash won a 2020 Chevy Spark in the Rotary Club of Shallotte’s Las Vegas Night Car Raffle. He received the keys to the car on February 3 from Gary Younts of Ocean City Chevrolet, which helped sponsor the event.
“I believe it’s the first thing I’ve ever won,” says Norris, who ironically is owner of a used-car dealership, A+ Auto Sales, in Longs, South Carolina.
The event netted more than $20,000 to support community needs and projects in Brunswick County.
“We had to be creative when the pandemic forced us to cancel our annual Las Vegas Night,” says Kelli Pratt, Rotary Club of Shallotte president. “We’re thrilled with the tremendous support we had from sponsors and individuals who bought tickets. It shows what Rotarians can accomplish.”
The club has raised nearly $1 million for community groups over the past 15 years with its annual Las Vegas Night. Funds go to a variety of local programs and projects.
Will Las Vegas Night, one of the biggest and most popular annual events in Shallotte, return in 2022? Pratt says that club members will decide later this year whether to do another car raffle, bring back Las Vegas Night or perhaps combine the two events.
“No matter what, the community can count on us to do our part to help when so many people need support,” Pratt says, noting that the club will use the $20,000 or more that will be netted after expenses for local grants and projects. “We couldn’t be happier about how well this worked out.”
