Do you have a few hours during the day while the kids are at school? Maybe you are between jobs? Or finding retirement not filling your days? Are you new to the area, or a Brunswick County native? Do you want to make a difference in your community and the life of a student? Age does not matter; all you need is a willingness to help. Communities In Schools (CIS) Thrift Shops have openings for caring and enthusiastic people as volunteers in our shops.

CIS Thrift Shops depend on the generosity of volunteers in our work to provide funding to CIS programs helping students stay in school and succeed in life. Our thrift shops cannot run without the commitment and hard work of our staff and volunteers.

We are looking for kind, friendly people to help provide great customer service along with an outstanding shopping experience in our thrift shops. Volunteers accept donations, assist customers, refill and organize racks and shelves, help with merchandising in the shop, and work with staff on a variety of special projects. Each person’s volunteer experience can be tailored to their personal skills and interests.

Hours are flexible with a fun atmosphere in each of our CIS shops. Twice a week or a few hours a month – snowbirds, seasonal and vacation schedules are all welcome. Please visit a CIS Thrift Shop to fill out an application, become involved, and become part of our thrift shop family.

CIS operates four thrift shops in Brunswick County: The Boiling Spring Lakes CIS Thrift Shop, Leland CIS Thrift Shop, Southport CIS Thrift Shop, and Sunset Beach CIS Thrift Shop. The Boiling Spring Lakes and Leland CIS Thrift Shops are especially in need of additional volunteers. For more information on CIS Thrift Shops visit or call the CIS office at 910-832-3494.
