Game Over brings film-quality escape room experiences to the Port City.

Can you outsmart the puzzle? You can try when you visit Downtown Wilmington’s newest escape room, Game Over Escape Room Wilmington. The worldwide network, which touts 650 escape rooms spanning 120 cities and 28 countries, opened in the Port City in October 2024 to much fanfare.

Case in point: Game Over Escape Room Wilmington is currently trending among the top-performing locations throughout the United States and Canada, bringing in quite the name for itself in its first few months on the market.

Implementing mental and physical action in an immersive space, Game Over Escape Room Wilmington is created by a film-production company that owns the rights to uber-popular movie franchises such as Harry Potter. Saying action to movie studio-quality sets and a next-level game, the enterprise gives it a dash of showmanship and quality that makes it stand out from other game rooms.

Each room was created in Greece before shipping stateside in a 40-foot container, which is then carefully assembled over a few weeks by a team of Greek designers and programmers.

“The movie studio type quality and experience was my wow factor,” says Owner Logan Zanki, a serial entrepreneur who saw a gap in the market for an escape room of this caliber in Wilmington. “It’s beyond just locks, picks and riddles — it’s an adventure.”

While Game Over Escape Room Wilmington features a whole laundry list of escape room options, Zanki intentionally picked an initial lineup of four for his location: the Lost City of Atlantis, with stunning visuals and sound; the Horror Circus, which replicates a spooky 1940s circus; Illuminati, which is perfect for the mystery lovers; and School of Magic, which is Harry Potter-themed and full of magical tales and twists.

“Harry Potter has a big following, and the cool thing about this one is that you do wand training before you go in,” Zanki says. “For Horror Circus, it’s very interactive and you play carnival games; the Illuminati room uses secrets from the U.S. dollars we all walk around with in our pockets; and the Lost City of Atlantis has an amazing ambiance with blue dim lights and stone walls with a waterfall walkway.” He goes on to note that the waterfall in Atlantis is poisonous.

This happening spot leans into the perk of privacy, meaning you do not have to worry about your group merging with another party. Each room welcomes anywhere from a pair of people to a group of eight puzzle solvers.

As excitement for the Game Over Escape Room Wilmington grows, Zanki hopes to keep the momentum going.

“My fingers are crossed to expand the Wilmington location next year and open another one in Myrtle Beach,” he says. “We’re already doing phenomenal and selling out on weekend nights.”

Contrary to its name, the game has just begun for Game Over’s Wilmington locale — and it’s no puzzle why the concept is garnering such positive buzz.
