Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce encourages everyone to shop locally on Small Business Saturday and every day.

Small businesses create economic prosperity for the local economy. Did you know that .67 cents from every $1 spent in a local small business stay in our community?

Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. It is called Small Business Saturday. American Express launched the first ever Shop Small Saturday in 2010 with the U.S. Senate unanimously passing a resolution recognizing Small Business Saturday in 2011. The movement has grown over the years with more than $19.9 billion dollars spent in communities nationwide during 2019 Small Business Saturday. This year Small Business Saturday is on Saturday, November 28.

Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce joined the movement as a neighborhood champion in 2010 and has been leading the way in promoting Shop Small Saturday for the Southport-Oak Island area ever since. This year the chamber will post an Online Holiday Gift Guide with holiday hours of its member shops and suggestions on great gift ideas you can purchase from their local small businesses. There will also be information on which small businesses will be hosting an Open House on Shop Small Saturday.
