When Larry Shaffer, an Army specialist, came home after a 12-month deployment in Afghanistan, he had a big surprise waiting for him. While he was away, his wife, Misty, lost 100 pounds, dropping from a size 24 to a size 6 in one year!

Misty’s motivation for the weight loss was simply to surprise her husband, who had been her high school sweetheart. The hard-working mom lost all of her weight without diet pills or fad diets. She simply cut out the junk and soda.Misty Shaffer loses 100 pounds

National, local and social media picked up on Misty’s success story, and soon she got a surprise of her own. Clarice Holden, owner of Island Breeze in Sunset Beach, heard the story and learned that Misty lives in Leland. Excited for her fellow Brunswick County resident, Holden surprised Misty with a new wardrobe from Island Breeze.Misty Shaffer loses 100 pounds

“I wanted to honor and bless her with some gorgeous garments that she will be able to enjoy and cherish as a reminder of her hard work and dedication,” says Holden.

Misty was invited to come to Island Breeze on April 10 and was given a $1,000 wardrobe makeover from Island Breeze and Lisette L. She was also given the royal treatment at The Coral Tree Salon and Day Spa, where she received a color treatment, a cut and styling, as well as makeup application. The Shaffers were treated to a dinner at Twin Lakes Seafood Restaurant that night.
