Meeting WiFi Needs
FOCUS Broadband awards Connect Grant to the City of Southport to bring WiFi access to city parks.
FOCUS Broadband recently awarded a $10,000 Connect Grant to the City of Southport to help bring WiFi access to city parks. These enhancements will have a tremendous impact for both park visitors and vendors by providing free broadband access over a new WiFi connection.
“This is a project the city has talked about doing for quite a while,” says Bonnie Therrien, Southport city manager. “It’s great that with FOCUS Broadband’s assistance, we are able to achieve this goal and help people meet their WiFi needs throughout downtown and all of our parks.”
The Connect Grant reflects FOCUS Broadband’s dedication to empowering local communities that provide technology for public use and economic initiatives that require connectivity.
“FOCUS Broadband is proud to award a $10,000 Connect Grant to Southport, advancing our commitment to support our community partners,” says FOCUS Broadband CEO Keith Holden. “By bringing WiFi to city parks, we aim to enhance digital inclusion through free broadband access, fostering technology-driven initiatives. This grant reflects our dedication to helping the City of Southport improve lives through connectivity.”
Since 2018 FOCUS Broadband has awarded Connect Grants to local organizations to assist in the costs associated with delivering and using FOCUS Broadband high-speed internet. The grant program is a key element of FOCUS Broadband’s vision to improve internet access, foster digital inclusion and increase the use of technology in areas served by the company.
This is the second Connect Grant awarded by FOCUS Broadband this year. The Town of Leland also received assistance with a project that brought WiFi access to Founders Park. FOCUS Broadband allocates $25,000 annually to the Connect Grants program.
