Meet the Author
Children’s book author ocean conservationist Paul Mila will sign his books, including Larry Loggerhead Travels to the Sea Turtle Hospital, at Museum of Coastal Carolina on August 17.
On August 17 Museum of Coastal Carolina will present a reading, discussion and book signing of a new children’s book called Larry Loggerhead Travels to the Sea Turtle Hospital by author Paul Mila. Geared especially for children ages 3 to 9 years old, this program will be fun as well as informative. It concludes with a short video of sea turtles hatching in Cozumel, Mexico.
Mila traded in his corporate suit for a wetsuit and now devotes his time to writing, scuba diving, underwater photography and speaking to groups, especially children, about ocean conservation and protecting sea turtles.
He has enjoyed photographing and diving with Caribbean reef sharks in the Bahamas, humpback whales in the Dominican Republic and Tonga, great white sharks in Guadalupe Island, Mexico, sea turtles in Cozumel, Mexico and a wide variety of sea life around the world, including in his home waters of Long Island, New York.
Recently Mila has written the children’s books Harry Hawksbill Helps His Friends, Gracie Green Turtle Finds her Beach and Larry Loggerhead Travels to the Sea Turtle Hospital published by Best Publishing Company. These books feature his underwater photography of sea turtles and other marine life while telling educational and fun stories. He is also the author of five underwater thrillers, the Manetta Mystery Adventure Series, and has co-authored Bubbles Up, a nonfiction collection of ocean adventures and sea-creature encounters.
Museum of Coastal Carolina is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10 am to 7 pm, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 1:30 pm. Admission is free for members. Non-member all-day admission is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors (62+), $7.50 for children (3 to 12), and free for age 2 and younger.
