Museum of Coastal Carolina is offering fun Family Programs in December.

The Museum of Coastal Carolina’s December Family Program schedule will provide fun and educational content that will inspire curiosity for visitors of all ages. Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium Education Manager Jamie Justice schedules and facilitates all Family Programs. Justice received her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from Bowling Green State University and her Master of Science in Environmental Science with concentrations in Marine and Coastal Education and Coastal Management from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

Sea Tales
Thursdays at 11 am
Listen to delightful holiday stories starring animals or exhibits displayed at the museum and complete interactive crafts or science activities based on each story.

December 14 – Clark the Shark Loves Christmas by Bruce Hale – Clark the Shark loves Christmas more than anyone! When Clark’s class organizes a Secret Santa gift exchange, Clark decides to find out who will be giving him a present … and he forgets to get a present for his Secret Santa. Find out what happens on gift exchange day!

December 21 – I Saw Santa in North Carolina by JD Green – Santa and Mrs. Claus want to go on a vacation, but can someone as famous as Santa stay out of sight? Mrs. Claus suggests North Carolina and … things don’t quite go as planned! Discover different regions of North Carolina through this fun story and a related activity.

December 28 – Squirrel’s New Year’s Resolution by Pat Miller – Squirrel struggles to make a New Year’s resolution despite helping her friends with theirs. Learn more about Squirrel’s dilemma, make New Year’s resolutions and prepare for New Year’s Eve by making festive party hats.

Fridays at 11 am
With staff and trained volunteer assistance, gently touch sea stars, urchins, anemones, conchs, horseshoe crabs and hermit crabs; watch trained volunteers feed the animals; and learn more about the sea creatures that call the museum home.

Saturdays at 11 am
Dive into a short interactive presentation on a coastal critter or habitat and complete a fun craft related to the topic of the day.

December 9 – Water Wonders – Dive into water’s many wonders by examining organisms that can’t be seen with the naked eye and completing a watercolor craft.

December 16 – Sand – Did you know sand varies in different parts of the world? Sift through sand’s unique characteristics and use this granular material to create art!

December 23 – Fav Fish – Can you guess museum staff members’ and volunteers’ favorite fish? There’s a clear winner that will be announced on this day! Learn about Museum VIFs (Very Important Fish) and complete a festive fish craft.

December 30 – Sea Stars – Did you know there are more than 2,000 species of sea stars? Discover local species of sea stars, learn why sea stars are no longer called star fish, and complete a special sea star craft!
