#GiveHealthy Food Collection Event
Dosher Memorial Hospital and Brunswick Wellness Coalition collected more than 2,000 pounds of food donations for local food pantries.
On July 13 Dosher Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the Brunswick Wellness Coalition (BWC), hosted a #GiveHealthy drive-through food donation event to benefit identified high-need areas within Brunswick County.
Between staff support and community donations combined, more than 2,000 pounds of food was collected with 97% being healthy foods. BWC staff coordinated distribution to local food pantries through South Brunswick PORCH and other nonprofit organizations that promote access to nutritious foods.
“We thank everyone who took the time and the care to help fill an urgent need in local food insecure communities and to help recipients receive high-quality, nutritious selections,” said BWC Executive Director Dr. Leigh Lane. “Healthy eating habits are key in helping children grow and develop properly and in lowering the risk of certain chronic diseases.”
Dosher President and CEO Lynda Stanley said she was touched by the generosity of the community and staff in making the event so successful.
“We would also like to thank all of our event volunteers, including the members of the Dosher Wellness and Engagement Committees, Leigh Lane and Morgan Plisky from the Brunswick Wellness Coalition, and members of the Southport / Oak Island Girl Scout Troop 2169,” Stanley said.
Dosher Memorial Hospital, a critical access hospital in Southport, operates a network of medical and surgical services in their local area. Dosher runs six primary care clinics, a walk-in clinic, a general surgery practice and a women’s health clinic, in addition to a nationally recognized Wound Care Center, cardiac rehabilitation and a full spectrum of therapy services, including physical, occupational and speech. Dosher’s hospital services include a 24-hour Emergency Department and a 25-bed inpatient care unit. Dosher offers a comprehensive orthopedics and joint replacement program, utilizing robotic technology for many of their procedures.
Dosher’s Swing Bed Program provides short-term skilled, post-acute care, allowing patients to recover in a familiar setting and close to home.
