Food Safety Classes

NC Cooperative Extension has Safe Plates Food Safety Manager Certification Classes coming up.

With Safe Plates, NC Cooperative Extension in Brunswick County offers three ways for food-service personnel to achieve the Food Safety Manager Certification. The comprehensive Safe Plates course is appropriate for food-service managers and supervisory staff in restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, childcare facilities and other food-handling establishments. The Safe Plates class can be taken in-person, virtually or a hybrid combination of both.

The virtual program is available for self-study from North Carolina State University. This includes 10 online recorded modules, a digital book, practice tests and activities. Proctored tests are given through NC Cooperative Extension, Brunswick County Center.

Safe Plate Training Brunswick NC

A hybrid version includes the virtual self-study and a three hour in-person review class. The review class will be followed by the proctored test. Participants are required to sign-up for the virtual Safe Plates training. This hybrid Safe Plates will be offered January 17, 2023, from starting at 11 am. The test will be given at 2:30 pm for hybrid and virtual students. The review class and test will be held in the meeting room of on the second floor of the County Administration Building the Government Center in Bolivia.

In-person Safe Plates will be held on Mondays February 20, 27 and March 6 from 12:30 until 4:30 pm each day.

The classes will meet at the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce, 4433 Long Beach Road SE in Southport. While not required, participants are encouraged to attend all three days. Participants in the in-person class will receive a book, all instruction and the proctored test on the final day.

Brunswick NC Safe Plate Training

The registration fee for any of these Safe Plates trainings is $125. All three formats include a proctored Food Safety Manager Certification test. Certification will be based on successful passing this written ANSI accredited examination. This certification satisfies the FDA Model Food Code requirement for a Person-in-Charge.
