Classic Cars and Planes
Head to Cape Fear Regional Jetport on May 27 for Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 939’s Classic Memories event.
Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 939 will host Classic Memories, an event combining cars, aircraft and military memorabilia at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport on May 27. The gates open at 8:30 am.
Car Show
The car show is open to all cars and trucks with registration 8:30 to 11:30 am with a $15 per vehicle registration fee. Dash plaques will be given to the first 75 vehicles and for the top 30 vehicles. Trophies will be awarded by decade class with special awards, and winners will be announced at 2 pm. No tents or canopies are permitted.
Plane Rides
A classic 1928 Ford TriMotor will give 15-minute flights around the area (weather permitting) from 9 am to 5 pm. Online registration is at flytheford.org until May 25. Tickets cost $85 for adults registering online are $65 for youth under 18 years of age. Tickets will also be available at the event for $85 for EAA members, $95 for non-members and $65 for youth.
Displays
There will be static aircraft displays with pilots on-hand to discuss their planes. Historical military memorabilia also will be exhibited, and EAA members will be there to explain the significance of the various items with interested attendees.
Food
A pancake breakfast will be available from 8:30 to 11 am for $6. Pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice are on the menu. Lunch, from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm, will feature items for purchase, including hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and chips.
