Clam-a-Jama

Up Your Arts’ Save the Hall, Y’all fundraiser was a hit.

Intrigued by the clever title Clam-a-Jama, an estimated 150 people brought chairs and drinks to Franklin Square Park on a recent glorious August evening to enjoy a delicious buffet and listen to some great music. They loaded their plates with clams, shrimp, chicken, potatoes and corn and were entertained by two very popular bands.

However, they came not just for the delicious buffet and great music, but also to support Up Your Arts’ Save the Hall Y’all campaign to restore and renovate the old Brunswick County Courthouse.

The music was a hit for every age. First Blue Tulip Jazz entertained the crowd with so many favorites spanning several decades, and then the San DeLand acoustic duo treated their fans to more great music. There was a corn bag toss and horseshoes for the kids, both of which attracted more adults than kids. And there was an old-fashioned water balloon toss for anyone brave enough to join in.

Up Your Arts is one-stop shop for information on all the performing and visual art events in the greater Southport/Oak Island area.

Their vision is to turn the historic Brunswick County Courthouse at the intersection of Davis and Moore streets into a cultural arts center with spaces for working artists, performances, a gallery and a cafe.
