Business Profile: Bloomers Floral Designs

Mandee Williams didn’t plan for a career in floral design, but her family history, job experience, creativity and outgoing personality led her in that direction anyway.

Born in Sylva, North Carolina, Williams spent summers vacationing in southern Brunswick County. After graduating from Western Carolina University with a degree in hospitality and tourism, she became the special events and activities manager at The Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands. While working full time, she also ran her own small business, Tis the Season, using her knack for design and decorating for small businesses.

Seeking change, Williams accepted an opportunity to become marketing manager for a Myrtle Beach-based resort company. Her experience in marketing and customer relations eventually led her to become the director of events and programs for the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce. She has lived in southern Brunswick County for the past 11 years.

A desire to use more of her creative talents led her to the floral industry. Following the lead of her grandmother, who ran a floral shop, Williams decided to carry on the family tradition. “Because of my grandmother, my dad grew up in the floral design industry and so did I,” Williams says. Fifty-four years after her grandmother opened her florist shop, Williams opened Bloomers Floral Design in Ocean Isle Beach.

Bloomers Floral Designs’ one-of-a-kind floral arrangements are highly desired for weddings and all occasions, and their plants and hanging baskets are very popular. The shop has won various awards for most creative and most colorful designs, including some Best of Brunswick awards. Williams loves building relationships with her customers and offers loyalty programs.

One of her favorite parts of her job is making deliveries. “They don’t expect to get flowers, so they are ecstatic!” she says.

Bloomers Floral Designs also serves as a gift shop, where Williams sells her homemade jams, jellies, salsas and unique Tyler Candles. For any occasion, stop in and see Williams at Bloomers, a true one-stop gift shop.
