Aging in Place
A new concept in independent living, Arbor Landing at Compass Pointe will allow seniors to stay in their community when they’re ready for independent living care.
Combining a resort-style residential community with independent senior living facilities is a new concept, and it’s exactly what the developers of Compass Pointe planned for when they approached Ridge Care about adding an Arbor Landing facility there. Arbor Landing at Compass Pointe will open in 2021.
“We are thrilled to have Arbor Landing as an addition to Compass Pointe,” says Amanda Marks, vice president of operations at Compass Pointe. “We often have prospective residents ask about options for aging parents as it will affect their decision and timing for a move here.”
Arbor Landing is also an attraction for current homeowners who have their own senior years in mind.
“Down the road, some of our residents may find that they have a need for a senior living environment, and now they will be able to maintain their lifestyle and friends at Compass Pointe while getting the help they need,” Marks says.
Gary Olive, vice president of sales and marketing for Ridge Care, parent company of Arbor Landing, says his company likes the Compass Pointe location because of the growing Leland and Metro Wilmington areas.
“It is the perfect location for us,” Olive says. “The Leland and Metro Wilmington area is growing rapidly in a vibrant and exciting way.”
The Compass Pointe location is the fourth Arbor Landing assisted and independent living facility in the area, joining those at Hampstead, Ocean Isle Beach and Surfside (in South Carolina). Located 10 minutes from downtown Wilmington, Arbor Landing at Compass Pointe is the 18th development and the first of its kind for Ridge Care.
“This new facility is our first independent living project developed in coordination with the original developers of a residential community,” Olive says.
Independent living is a unique model for Ridge Care, one that they have worked on perfecting over the years. Recognizing the desire for seniors to remain independent as long as they are able, Arbor Landing provides an all-inclusive, luxury living experience in a welcoming environment.
“Planning for the future is important for seniors, and the opportunities offered by Arbor Landing enhance and complement independent living,” Olive says. “It is a perfect option for someone who is active now, yet may need a bit of assistance later. It’s part of aging in place.”
Each unit has a wireless emergency response button with immediate response around the clock, which will give the families of resident seniors peace of mind. Partnering with a home health agency with an onsite office ensures residents have access to assistance when the time comes. A local physical therapy practice is onsite as well, so residents can simply walk down the hall for their appointment.
The three-story Arbor Landing at Compass Pointe facility has 100 one- and two-bedroom units.
One-bedroom units measure just less than 850 square feet, while the two-bedroom unit averages a little less than 1,150 square feet. Each unit includes a kitchenette, private balcony or porch and independent climate control. All-inclusive rental rates include meals, internet, utilities, insurance, taxes, maintenance fees and weekly housekeeping, laundry and linen services. Transportation to local medical appointments is also available. A coastal-design inspired dining room, luxurious movie theater and engaging daily social activities in a spacious and elegant lounge and event area add to the appeal. There will also be planned special trips to area shops, community events and entertainment venues.
Residents will enjoy three restaurant-style meals daily, developed by the corporate nutritionist and prepared by the executive chef and staff. The diverse menu includes multiple entrée choices at each meal. Residents can start the day with a full breakfast, enjoy a delicious club-style lunch and end the day with a choice from the locally inspired menu. There are also several standards available on request, such as salads or baked chicken with rice.
When fully staffed, Arbor Landing will have 25 employees onsite, including a full-time social director, an executive chef and kitchen staff, servers, housekeepers and maintenance workers. The social director keeps residents busy with daily activities ranging from community-based card and book clubs, to light exercise classes, to movie and music gatherings.
Arbor Landing provides a unique choice for seniors at affordable rates.
The popularity of Arbor Landing facilities locally has not gone unnoticed. The new Hampstead facility is nearing 95 percent capacity, and there is a waiting list at Arbor Landing Ocean Isle Beach.
