Addison Prevatte Honored with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Care
Dosher Memorial Hospital nurse Addison Prevatte, BSN, RN, earns the DAISY Award for extraordinary, compassionate patient care and responsiveness.
Addison Prevatte, BSN, RN, a nurse in the Patient Care Unit at Dosher Memorial Hospital, has been honored with The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses, a national recognition program that celebrates the exceptional work nurses provide every day.
Prevatte was nominated by a patient who highlighted her compassionate approach, quick responsiveness, and commitment to excellent care. The nomination described her as consistently cheerful and helpful, noting that she communicated clearly and treated the patient like family.

What the DAISY Award Recognizes
The DAISY Award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s mission to recognize the extraordinary efforts nurses make for patients and families. The not-for-profit foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an autoimmune disease.
Barnes’ family established the foundation after witnessing the skill, compassion, and steady support nurses provided during his illness. Today, the DAISY Award is presented at healthcare organizations around the world to honor nurses who make a profound difference.

Recognized for Compassionate, Patient-Focused Care
At Dosher, Prevatte has earned praise for her patient-centered mindset and the way she takes time to listen, address concerns, and build trust—an essential part of quality care.
Hospital leadership also noted her strong critical thinking skills and professionalism, especially as a nurse early in her career.
A New Nurse with Deep Experience and a Clear Calling
Prevatte graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in December and joined Dosher in February 2026. Before nursing school, she worked as a nurse aide, gaining hands-on experience with patients and strengthening her desire to pursue nursing.
She has long viewed nursing as her calling and values the opportunity to provide comfort and compassion during difficult moments for patients and families.
Local Roots and Life Outside the Hospital
Originally from Leland, Prevatte now lives in the Winnabow area. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, family, friends, and her two dogs, Murphy and Mac. Her hobbies include gardening, fishing, trips to the beach, and hands-on creative projects such as baking and sewing.
