A Tasty Expansion
Terry and Andrew Bland of ART Catering & Events and Purple Onion Café expand their offerings with an event venue of their own, Brick Landing and Seabreeze Restaurant in Ocean Isle Beach.
Terry and Andrew Bland, owners of the popular Purple Onion Cafe and ART Catering & Events in downtown Shallotte, have expanded operations into the elegant Brick Landing clubhouse near Ocean Isle Beach. The couple has nearly 25 years of restaurant and catering experience. Since landing in Brunswick County in 2004, Terry has managed the business while Andrew, a professionally trained chef and United Kingdom native, has created delicious and diverse cuisine for their clientele.
In 2017 they became the exclusive caterer at Brick Landing and were extremely excited to take on the complete operations of the Brick Landing event venue and restaurant in March of 2020. Built in 1987, the 11,000-square-foot clubhouse perches on the land purchased in 1759 by American Colonist William Gause, Sr. This property was where Gause’s ships unloaded the bricks that would become the foundation of his manor house and family crypts — thus the name Brick Landing.
Megan Reaves is the marketing and sales director for Art Catering. “We are so excited for the community to come and see our beautiful renovations,” she says. “We worked together to bring the clubhouse back to life and after a lot of hard work, it turned out even better than we all imagined.”
The second-story event room offers sweeping, nearly panoramic vistas of the Intracoastal Waterway. There is a built-in bar and round-table seating with gold Chiavari chairs for 130 guests. Downstairs, the Oyster Dining Room and Seabreeze restaurant combined offer table seating for 110. Outdoors, the water view patio seats 60. The Seagrass Ceremony Lawn is perfect for waterside weddings or casual cocktail receptions for up to 100 guests.
Providing complete services from table, seating, linen and china rental to bar and food service to an expansive menu selection, Art Catering is pleased to coordinate casual and formal affairs and everything in between.
“From full buffet to chef stations to cocktails with passed hors d’oeuvres to seated meals, Art Catering’s eclectic menu offerings include American, Italian, Mediterranean, BBQ, Southern, Southwestern, seafood and even fusion,” Reaves says, adding that gluten-free, nut-free, vegetarian and vegan options are also available.
Seabreeze Restaurant is slated offer a few pop-up themed dinners with live music, including a prime rib night, an Italian night and a low country boil night. “Locals and former club members really love these popular events,” Reaves says.
The lunch and dinner menu includes Southern bites, fresh salads, sandwiches, specialty burgers, fried baskets, flatbreads and a kids’ menu. The Seabreeze Bar offers a full selection of domestic and imported beer, craft beer, wine and mixed drinks. Sunday brunch is set to resume with live music and mimosas.
“It has been a vision of Terry and Andrew to have their own venue since they opened their catering business in 1997,” Reaves says. “This vision is finally realized at Brick Landing and Seabreeze.”
