Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area is now accepting applications for its 2023 veterans flight to Washington, D.C.

Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area (HFCFA) is pleased to announce that its second mission to Washington, D.C., will take place on April 29, 2023. Applications for veterans and guardians to apply are now available on the HFCFA website at HonorFlightCFA.org.

A hub of the national Honor Flight Network, HFCFA was established in 2020 with the mission of flying veterans to Washington, D.C., free of charge for a day of honor and remembrance. Veterans from the WWII, Korean and Vietnam eras as well as veterans from any era that suffer from a life-limiting illness are welcome to apply. Priority is given to veterans who served during WWII and the Korean War eras as well as to those with life-limiting illnesses.

HFCFA flew its inaugural mission to Washington, D.C., on April 30, 2022. Each spring, 75 veterans and 75 guardians along with a medical team and administrative staff, travel to the nation’s capital on a chartered aircraft for a day of honoring the sacrifices made by our service men and women. The chartered aircraft departs Wilmington International Airport (ILM) early in the morning and returns the same day, after touring the memorials and monuments built in honor of our veterans.

The public is invited to welcome home our veterans when they return to ILM, and in 2022 approximately 1,000 people greeted the flight.
