A Day for the Dogs

by Mar 7, 2019North Brunswick

Bark in the Park is back and celebrating a decade of keeping Leland’s four-legged friends safe.

Hosted by the Town of Leland Parks and Recreation Department, Bark in the Park is an opportunity for citizens to enjoy a fun-filled, dog-focused day at the park.

“We contacted local vets, dog-centered businesses, and animal rescues to join us for a day in the park to celebrate our community’s best friends,” says Recreation Supervisor Amy Wells. “Our favorite part of the event is seeing all the community dogs in the park with smiles on their faces and knowing we are aiding in keeping them safe.”

Rain or shine, your pup will have the opportunity to participate in a free rabies vaccination clinic at with Capeside Animal Hospital. “Participants will get a one-year vaccination unless they can provide proof (i.e. rabies vaccination certificate) of previous vaccinations, in which case they can get a three-year vaccination,” Wells says, adding that in 2018, 181 furry friends were vaccinated against rabies at Bark in the Park. “We expect the same amount if not more this year!”

Various vendors will be on site, including Monty’s Home, Splish Splash Dog Wash, PetSense Leland and CituSolution, among others. There will be a pet food donation drive, too. Although Bark in the Park is a dog-centered event, cat food will be accepted. All items collected will benefit Brunswick County Animal Protection Services.

“We welcome all dogs to the event but ask that if your dog is aggressive, has anxiety or is a female dog in heat, or if you have multiple dogs, that you let an event staff member know upon arrival, and arrangements will be made for the vet to come to your car to administer the vaccinations,” Wells says. “We strive to make this event as safe as possible for all in attendance and appreciate participants’ cooperation in this effort.”

If you don’t have a furry best friend or you are looking to add a pet to your family, dogs seeking a forever home will be available for adoption through Brunswick County Animal Protection Services.

Bark in the Park is sponsored by Capeside Animal Hospital and Furever Friends Animal Rescue.
